In 350 pages of this volume, only 14 pages were dedicated to Indian authors (both poetry and prose). Despite the bombastic and colonial nationalism apparent in the opening essay, "The Literati of British India," the editor David Lester Richardson, closes the volume with this translation by a well-known Indian author (from "The Bengal Annual: A Digital Exploration"). In a search of the 3000 British and American literary annual titles published 1823-1847, the term "india" in titles of literature contained with annuals renders 41 poems and 24 prose pieces (fiction and non-fiction). This search uncovered references to the continent of India, North American Indians, East India Company, and as a qualifier of nationality. Without physically reviewing all of the literary annuals poetry and prose, it's impossible to identify all of the materials relating to India. For instance, 3 poems and 3 prose works include “Benares” in the title, a city in India; 2 poems and 1 prose work were found for “Hindu”; 13 poems and 5 prose works were found for “Hindo” and its variations; 1 poem resulted in a search from “East Indies.” (from Harris' Forget Me Not: The Rise of the British Literary Annual)
