Description
The Bengal Annual (1830-1837) was the only British literary annual produced and published in Calcutta, India, extending the boundaries of home to Britain’s colonial empire by including both British and Indian authors, despite the editor articulating the colonial dominance of the British Empire's literary imagination and artistry over the local Indian poets and authors in the volume's Preface. The material aspects of this literary annual certainly don't match the luxurious boards, gild edges, India paper, clear type, and steel plate engravings in the London-published literary annuals.
