Title
Crimson silk-covered boards, Keepsake for 1841
Subject
Literary Annual Defined
Description
Both Friendship’s Offering and the Forget Me Not were originally published with paper boards and were perhaps perceived as more ephemeral than the Keepsake, published with silk-covered boards, or The Literary Souvenir, published in leather or cloth boards. Maintaining a resonance of eighteenth-century literary forms, the Forget Me Not and Friendship’s Offering were published in duodecimo and octavo through 1831 and did not indulge in larger paper until later years, if at all. The Literary Souvenir offered octavo and quarto versions. And, The Keepsake was published only in quarto.
